From the recording A TIME IN BAY BULLS
Lyrics
Well it was down by the fish plant one morning I did stray
I met a fellow worker - his name was Wayne Mulcahy
Said he just got word from Andrew that - the Clipper’s on her way
With a load of fish from the Virgin Rocks - all bound for Witless Bay
Now when she pulled in the harbor - we knew she had a load
’Twas Ronnie on the forklift - with his head all ‘bout to explode
He was thinkin’ and a-schemin’ - of how to get away
But he was ‘afraid he’d lose his forklift to that big old Wayne Mulcahy
Well Andrew looked at Ronnie and his face broke in a grin
He said “get your forklift ready - ‘cause the Clipper’s pullin’ in”
And in the dust up in the Cobh - came Lester in a rush
He looked up at Noel Henderson - he said “me son how much?”
Then Bud came down the Graveyard Road and there the Clipper Lay
He radioed to Neilly at the office in Witless Bay
‘Said “make a call to Tors Cove and get Dermot underway
There’s a load of fish from the Virgin Rocks all bound for Witless Bay!”
Then Janice dropped off Neville - ‘bout quarter after nine
And Andrew looked at Neville and said “son your’e not on time!”
Then Micky Dave dropped Shawny off and Rodney ‘Driscoll too
And here comes Beaver and Puddin’ - just passing by Frank Drew’s
Then over the hill came Gene Glynn with Jeff hot on his heals
They had to walk to work today ‘cause Anita had the wheels
She just got a call from Mary Gerard to get over right away
There’s a load of fish from the Virgin Rocks all bound for Witless Bay
Well the b’yes were in the back room - just suckin’ on a toke
You couldn’t see their faces - they were covered up in smoke
Well Andrew poked his head inside - and pulled back with a jerk
Said “come on now b’yes put out that stuff - it’s time to go to work!”
Well Bouchard looked at Andrew - and in his eye a tear
He said “now look here Andrew - sure I don’t really care
I’ll take orders from no man - and brother if I do
I’ll call up Irene Ploughman - and she’ll take care of you!’
Well as the day was over - we marched up to the Swamp
We looked out at the harbour as the Clipper she pulled out
Mick Mulroney said “don’t worry boys - tomorrow’s another day!
Here comes the Carol Venture - with a load for Witless Bay!”
